Whey protein powder is considered a complete protein. It contains all the amino acids the body requires to build muscle. Whey protein shakes are typically consumed right after weightlifting sessions to help in the recovery and repair of muscles, a key step in muscle growth. Whey protein powder can also be consumed at other times if you're unable to get enough protein from whole food sources.

Adding whey protein powder to existing meals is one way to get additional protein in your diet. Whey protein pancakes are a simple introduction to cooking with whey protein powder.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Skillet
  • Cooking spray
  • Bowl
  • Fork
  • 1/2 cup uncooked oats
  • 1 scoop whey protein powder, any flavor
  • 1 egg
  • Cinnamon
  • 1 cup water
  • Spatula
  • Syrup
  1. Step 1

Spray the skillet with cooking spray and set on medium-low heat.

  2. Step 2

Combine the oats, protein powder and egg in a bowl and mix with a fork. Add cinnamon to taste.

  3. Step 3

If the mix is too stiff, add a little water and use your fork to combine. Repeat until desired consistency is achieved.

  4. Step 4

Pour the batter into the skillet. You should be able to make three small pancakes with this mixture.

  5. Step 5

Flip the pancakes with the spatula when small bubbles form at the top of each pancake.

  6. Step 6

Remove pancakes with the spatula when pancakes feel firm. Firmness can be determined by gently pressing down on the top of each pancake with the spatula.

  7. Step 7

    Pour syrup on your pancakes.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you're watching your cholesterol, substitute two egg whites for one egg. Spread natural peanut butter on each pancake as an alternative to syrup.
