If you are watching TV next to someone who would rather sleep or read a book, the television is going to bother them. You could put the TV on mute, but then you can't hear it. The solution is to connect a pair of headphones to the TV audio out, allowing you to listen to the TV without bothering the other person.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Audio RCA to 1/8-inch female headphone adapter
  1. Step 1

Insert your headphones into the headphones jack. If you have a television built within the last few years, you may have one of these jacks. If you don't, go to Step 2.

  2. Step 2

Find the audio "Out" ports behind the TV. These are red and white ports next to the yellow video port.

  3. Step 3

Plug an RCA to 1/8-inch female stereo adapter into the audio "Out" ports. Make sure the red is plugged into the red and white into white.

  4. Step 4

Plug your headphones into the 1/8-jack on the other end of the RCA adapter. This allows you to listen to the TV through headphones.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you only hear audio out of one earpiece, either your headphones are damaged, or one of the RCA cables is not properly pushed into the "Out" port.
