Connecting your computer or laptop to the Internet has never been easier. Dual and Tri Mode phones, such as SmartPhones and PDAs, have built in data ports that enable you to redirect your mobile Internet to your computer's data network. Install your cell phone's mobile office application and driver software. This software is usually on the software disc that comes with your phone at the time of purchase. Insert the software disc into your computer or laptop's CD-ROM drive door.

Connect the cell phone to the computer. Plug the USB sync cable into the phone's A/C adapter or data port, and insert the other end of the sync cable into the computer's 2.0 USB port.

Configure the phone's connection settings. Press the "Start" key on your phone's keypad to access the Windows Mobile settings. Open your cell phone's Network Connections subfolder. Scroll through the phone's Network Connections and Settings, and change the current connection setting from its current state to "Dial Up." Press the soft key that is usually located in the upper right corner of the phone's keypad to save this change.

Reroute the phone's Internet connection to your computer. On your phone's keypad, simply navigate to the "Web" link to access the Internet as you usually would for mobile Internet. Press the "Web" key, and allow the phone to establish the Internet connection. Open your computer's Internet browser once the phone indicates that the connection has been successfully established.

Tips & Warnings

  • To ensure you have a stable connection, avoid moving the USB sync cable as much as possible. Establish your Internet connection where your phone has a strong signal. If your phone doesn't have a strong signal, the Internet connection will run slow.

  • Make sure you have a sufficient data plan with your smartphone or PDA. If not, charges will be incurred for accessing the Internet. Even though the connection is for your computer, it is routed from your phone, so these charges will appear on your next cell phone bill.
