How to Remove Wall Paint From Stained Wood

Painting walls can be messy and bothersome, especially when the paint drips onto stained wood. Even with the use of drop cloths and painter's tape, an occasional drip can land on stained wood floors or furniture. It is possible to safely remove paint without damaging the wood floor or furniture. This can be accomplished by implementing careful measures with the proper supplies to successfully remove wall paint from stained wood.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Latex paint remover
  • Cotton cloth
  • Plastic paint scraper
  1. Step 1

    Apply a small amount of hot water to the paint-affected wood. Let it set for several minutes.

  2. Step 2

    Try to lift the paint with a plastic paint scraper. Be careful not to gouge the wood.

  3. Step 3

    Wrap a clean cotton cloth around your index finger.

  4. Step 4

    Apply a small amount of latex paint remover to the tip of your cloth-covered finger.

  5. Step 5

    Test the remover on a small inconspicuous part of the wood to ensure it doesn't damage the stain.

  6. Step 6

    Wipe the paint-affected area with your remover-dampened cloth.

  7. Step 7

    Turn the cloth so that your finger is underneath a dry portion, and gently blot the paint to remove.
