Things You'll Need:
- Utility knife
- Clean rag
- Rubbing alcohol
- Commercial caulk softener
- Plastic putty knife or plastic caulk removal tool
- Denatured alcohol
-
Step 1
Cut an opening in the caulk with a utility knife.
-
Step 2
Place the blade of the utility knife in the opening and cut the caulk away from the surface. Be careful when applying pressure so you do not scratch the tile or the surrounding area.
-
Step 3
Wet one end of a clean rag with rubbing alcohol and scrub any discoloration left by the caulk removal. If the alcohol does not remove the caulk lines, use a mild scouring powder mixed with water and apply it with a nylon scouring pad.
-
Step 1
Spray the caulk with a commercial water-based caulk softener. Allow the softener to sit for the amount of time indicated by the chemical manufacturer.
-
Step 2
Scrape the caulk from the area with a plastic putty knife or plastic caulk removal tool.
-
Step 3
Clean the area with denatured alcohol before resurfacing.
