How to Delete a Desktop Background

Both Windows and Mac OS operating systems come with a built-in set of desktop background images or wallpapers, most of which picture nature stills and color palettes. However, you can set any picture, including personal ones, as a background. If you want to delete any of the standard wallpapers once you set a customized one, it will take you only a few mouse clicks.

Instructions

  1. Windows XP and Vista

      Go to the "Start" menu and then click on "My Computer."

      Double-click the "C:" drive icon and then double-click the "Windows" folder.

      Scroll down to find the "Web" folder and double-click it to open.

      Open the "Wallpaper" folder.

      Select the desktop wallpapers you want to delete and press "Delete" on your keyboard.

      Go to your Desktop and right-click the "Recycle Bin" icon. Scroll down and click on "Empty Recycle Bin" option to completely delete the wallpaper image.

    Mac OS 8.5 and 9

      Go to the "Apple" menu and click on the "Control Panel."

      Click on "Appearance" and then select the "Desktop" tab.

      Click on the wallpaper image you wish to remove and then click on "Remove Picture" button.

      Click on "Set Desktop" button to save new settings.
