How to Fix My Java XP Windows Installer Package

The Java programming language has played an integral role in using the Internet since the mid-1990s. Maintaining a current version of Java on your computer is key to maintaining usability and function of websites across the Internet. Although installation of Java normally occurs without problems, you can run into problems when attempting to install or upgrade Java on Windows XP. Users of Windows XP may have the need arise to troubleshoot Java installations and upgrades on their computer.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Remove previous versions of Java from your computer. To do this, you will need to select "Start-->Control Panel" from your computer's Start menu.

  2. Step 2

    Choose the "Add or Remove Programs" menu option and choose the "Remove/Uninstall" menu choice located next to the Java Runtime program name.

  3. Step 3

    Download and install Java from the uniform resource locator (URL). Choose the "online" installation option when you select the installation option provided to you by Sun Microsystems.

  4. Step 4

    Revisit the Java download page from Sun Microsystems and download the offline Java installation file to your computer if the online installation fails to install on your computer running Windows XP. After you download the file to your computer, double left click the installation file to install on your computer.

  5. Step 5

    Restart your computer and Java will be installed on Windows XP.
