How to Use a Bissell Rug Shampooer
Bissell is a trusted company that has been making floor sweepers since the late 1800s. Two favorite Bissell carpet shampooers are the Bissell Pro Heat and the Bissell Power Steamer Pro. Most upright models of Bissell carpet shampooers have similar operating instructions with variations seen in the different features each model boasts. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Lift the carrying handle on the 2-in-1 water tank to remove it from the base. Remove the lid, and turn the tank over to expose the built-in measuring cup.
-
2
Fill the tank to the indicator line with a recommended Bissell cleaning formula. Refer to your user guide for a list of recommended products.
-
-
3
Pour the formula from the measuring cup into the bladder container, and fill the rest of the way with clean, hot water.
-
4
Replace the lid, and put the tank back into the base of the carpet cleaner.
-
5
Plug the Bissell carpet shampooer into an outlet. Set the "Ready Tools" knob to the "Floor Cleaning" setting. Press the red power button on the back of the machine to turn the machine on.
-
6
Rotate the heater switch on the side of the shampooer to the "On" position. Wait one minute for the heater to warm up.
-
7
Push the gray handle release with your foot. This is found on the back of the cleaner just below the water tank.
-
8
Press and hold the spraying trigger as you slowly pass an area of carpet. Follow this same method while retracing the same area backwards.
-
9
Push the carpet shampooer over this same area of carpet again, forward and then back, but without holding the spray trigger. This will pick up any leftover water and help with drying. You may have to repeat this step a couple of times until you no longer see water being sucked up.
-
10
Continue this process throughout the entire carpeted area you are cleaning.
Power Steamer Pro
-
11
Push the lever to lay the handle of the shampooer back so that you can access the water tank. Lift the tank out of position using the carrying handle.
-
12
Unlatch the tank lid by rotating the handle forward. Remove the lid from the tank.
-
13
Fill the bladder with clean, hot water. Replace the lid, and insert the tank back into the machine. Put the handle of the carpet shampooer into the upright position.
-
14
Remove the formula tank from the base of the shampooer. Unscrew the cap, and insert on the tank to fill. Pour a recommended Bissell formula into the formula tank up to the indicator line. Screw the cap on, and insert back onto the tank and put the tank back into the machine.
-
15
Choose "High Traffic," "Normal" or "Water Rinse" from the three settings on the SmartMix dial. This dial is located on the base of the machine. This will adjust the shampooer to the appropriate amount of water and cleaning solution mix for the job. Rotate the Ready Tools Dial to the floor cleaning position.
-
16
Plug the shampooer into an outlet, and put the switch on the backside of the handle to the "On" position.
-
17
Press the trigger on the handle while simultaneously making one forward pass over an area of carpet and then another pass back. Do this slowly.
-
18
Pass over the same carpeted area, both forward and backward, this time without pressing the trigger button. This will pick up any leftover water on the carpet. Do this until you no longer see water being sucked up.
-
19
Continue this process throughout the entire carpeted area you are cleaning.
