Step 1
Gently loosen the dirt around the bush.
-
Step 2
Use a shovel to dig a hole one and a half feet deep and one and a half feet wide. When you dig out the hole, keep the topsoil separate from the rest of the dirt. If the bush is larger, dig a bigger hole. Put the top soil in a wide bucket. Make a 50-50 mix of topsoil and compost in the bucket. The dirt should have a pH between 6 and 8, according to landscaping-solutions.com.

Step 3
Make a small mound in the middle of hole from the topsoil and compost. Set the shrub on top of the mound. Make sure the roots are spread out. Dig out more dirt if the roots need more room. Bury the plant with the rest of the topsoil and compost mixture.
-
Step 4
Water the bush every night for 3 weeks. Water shouldn't puddle up under the bush.
-
Step 5
Put mulch on top of the dirt to hold in water.
