How to Make a Hooded Towel Wrap for Children
Hooded towel wraps are functional novelties for children. From summer fun in the sun at the pool, to bedtime baths, hooded towel wraps are a cozy way to dry off and get dressed. Many hooded towel wraps purchased in retail stores are plain. You can create your own hooded towel wraps designed to the child's preferences in an afternoon. Use the ducky towel as a starting point. Incorporate your own ideas for variations on the hooded towel wrap. Think dogs, frogs and cats!

Starting Out
-
1
Turn the towel on a flat surface, into a diamond-shaped position. If you are using fabric instead of ready-made towels, hem all of the edges of your fabric so that no raw edges are exposed. Then turn your towel to a diamond-shaped position.
-
2
Cut off three corners on the other towel, so that each corner is 8 inches at the widest point. If you are using fabric, cut three 8-inch wide at the widest point triangles.
-
-
3
Turn the longest edge under and hem. Do this for all three. Set two of the corners aside.
-
4
Work with one hemmed corner. Place the hemmed corner on a flat surface.
-
5
Cut a triangle from the orange felt, each side 2 inches long.
-
6
Zigzag, in the tightest zigzag stitch available, (applique stitch) with orange thread, the "beak" of the duck to the center of the hemmed corner you are working on.
-
7
Cut two black circles, each measuring 1-inch in diameter.
-
8
Zigzag stitch, in black thread, the "eyes" of the duck in place on the hemmed corner.
-
9
Place the "face" corner, face touching the back of the towel, onto one of the uncut towel corners. The face needs to be looking up on the right side of the fabric when the face is turned inside out.
-
10
Sew (using a straight stitch) the three sides of the hemmed corner onto the uncut towel. Turn it inside out (hood).
-
11
Place the towel, on a flat surface, the face at the top, into a diamond-shaped position.
-
12
Place the right sides of the fabric of the two hemmed corners touching the back of the uncut towel, position a corner into each of the right and left corners of the towel and pin. (The towel should have the bottom of the diamond with no corners sewn onto it.)
-
13
Sew. Turn inside out. The child slips his/her head under the ducky face hood and his/her hands into the side corners to wrap the towel around the body.

Tips & Warnings
By altering the color scheme and facial details with felt, you can create frogs and dogs and cats. Keep the shapes for eyes and noses simple (circles and triangles) for the easiest construction and best effect.
