How to Make Taper Candle Holders

Taper candles are one of the most common types of candles. They're the long skinny candles you've seen in candelabras and other kinds of candle holders. Taper candles are also commonly used at candlelight vigils. They add a look of elegance to any décor, and you don't have to spend a lot of money to display their beauty. A hot glue gun makes it easy to attach tapers to anything you want to use as a holder. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Place one taper candle in the exact center of the unused vase. Use the hot glue gun to attach the candle to the inside of the vase and let it dry.

    • 2

String the glass beads up so you have a long necklace. The string should be long enough so when you wrap it around the base of a plain taper candle, it goes up about a third of the way.

    • 3

String more glass beads and wrap them around the outside of the first string of beads. Use the hot glue gun to attach the two strings so they're nesting, one inside the other. Make a third string and attach it if your candle holder doesn't seem stable enough.

    • 4

Place the glass bead base around the taper inside the vase. You can also use it separately from the vase for a new look.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also fill the unused vase with loose glass beads and press a taper candle down into the beads if you don't want to glue the candle to the inside of the vase. Just be sure to use enough beads so your candle will stand up, but not so many beads that they will get in the way of your candle as it's burning. For more variations on the vase taper candle holder, use sherry glasses or any other non-flammable containers. Seashells also make great taper candle holders. Turn them upside down, secure the taper inside with hot glue, and use a base of stones to secure the candle holder.

  • Never let children use a hot glue gun without adult supervision. Never leave burning candles unattended. When you're making the taper candle holder out of the strings of glass beads, double-check the holder's stability before you light the candle. Add another string of beads if you need to.
