If you want to sell textbooks and used books, it can be profitable if you can find some valuable books. Books are expensive and people are always looking to find a good deal. You can sell textbooks back to a college store, or simply sell textbooks online and make more money. Before you go and sell textbooks or other books online, you should first know a few things.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1
    Sell used books.
    Sell used books.

Find books around the house that you would consider selling. You can sell textbooks both old and new, but it's not worth it to sell used books for less than $10. The cost of shipping plus your effort will eat up the profits. Check book values online or use an ISBN number scanner for quick results.

  2. Step 2

Find other books to sell. Try and find free ones from the "free" section on Craigslist. Also check Goodwill and garage sales. Garage sales will often sell textbooks that were leftover from family members. These can sometimes be sold for a nice price. Your local library will also sell textbooks, so you should check and see if they have any special sales.

  3. Step 3
Use Amazon to sell textbooks and other books.
Use Amazon to sell textbooks and other books.

Use recommended sites such as Amazon or Ebay to sell textbooks and sell used books. Sign up a free account on either site to sell textbooks. If you’re uncomfortable with the auction selling on Ebay, then use Amazon. You can sell textbooks more easily there, and the site is much easier to use.

  4. Step 4
Use the ISBN number to sell textbooks.
Use the ISBN number to sell textbooks.

Locate the ISBN number on the back of your book. The ISBN title stands for (International Standard Book Number). The ISBN number is usually located just below or above the bar code. You will need to know the ISBN number in order to sell used books online in some cases. The ISBN number is used to list the book some sites. When you go to list your book on a site, simply enter the ISBN number and in most cases there will be a matched photo and description of it. This way you don’t have to take a picture of the book and download it to the site.

  5. Step 5
Research your competition before you sell textbooks.
Research your competition before you sell textbooks.

Before you sell used books, research your competition on the site that you’re using. Find out what the lowest price is for the book you’re selling. Check other sites as well, so you can list your best price.

  6. Step 6

Sell textbooks within the United States to avoid high shipping fees, unless you sell used books frequently and are making a steady profits.

  7. Step 7

Buy padded envelopes from discount stores for mailing out your sold books. This will save some money instead of using expensive post office packaging.

  8. Step 8

Ship your sold items promptly when you sell used books. This is very important in maintaining a positive reputation online. Negative feedback could make it nearly impossible to sell used books in the future.

  9. Step 9

Ask your buyers to post some positive ratings and feedback about you. This will be very helpful in the future when you sell textbooks again.
