Carpet stains are the worst! Nobody likes to look at a nice carpet that has been ruined by some ugly stain, especially if the stain is from rust. The rust can come from many things like an air conditioner than was left on the carpet. This can be something that has been there for just a short amount of time as well. Mix warm water with a little bit of banking soda so that it forms a paste. This paste should be an amount that is enough to cover the entire stain. If it is not then you will want to make more than one batch to use.

Put the paste on the stain and leave it there for a few hours, maybe 3 or more. This is so it has a chance to work itself deep into the stain.

Shampoo the carpet and clean the spot.
