Instructions

    • 1

Consider buying jewelry or collectibles with the birthday boy's or girl's birthstone. The modern stones for December are the blue topaz and the turquoise; the traditional is the zircon; the mystical stone is the onyx. These are meant to bring good luck to those born in December.

    • 2

Keep astrological attributes in mind when purchasing a gift. The well-organized and profound December Sagittarius, born December 1 to 21, might appreciate an electronic organizer or a book about philosophy.

    • 3

Think about gifts such as a business card case or relaxing aromatherapy candles for the practical and hardworking Capricorn, born December 22 to 31.

    • 4

Choose something in the astrological birthstone as an alternative to the monthly birthstone. The Sagittarius's stone is the zircon; the Capricorn's is the moonstone.

    • 5

Consider the gift of December birth flowers - poinsettias, holly and narcissus - to send to the birthday boy or girl.

    • 6

Try adhering to a December theme by giving gifts such as holiday ornaments or music, or making holiday treats and wrapping them in a decorative basket.

Tips & Warnings

  • Men can be quite appreciative of flowers, so don't automatically rule out such a gift.

  • Another birthstone for December is the ruby.

  • The winter holidays are considered by many to be a time of sharing. Instead of buying a gift, why not offer to donate money to a recipient's favorite charity?

  • December is a super busy time for holiday shoppers. Consider shopping online or via catalog to avoid the crowds.

My son's birthday was December 22, we always left one room void of Christmas stuff and made a big deal out of the birthday, THEN he got a big gift and party June 22 as an Un-birthday, one time a swing set, one time a new dog, one time a new bike, one time a huge teen barn dance with a d-jay, I am pretty sure he never felt left out cuz he was born close to the Big holiday, PS we spent his first birthday in the hospital because he was 10 1/2 weeks premature.

When someone has a birthday near Christmas, don't give them a Christmas themed present! It takes the specialness out of their birthday. Also, joint Christmas and birthday presents will make their birthday less like a special day for them. It's happened to me many times, and it's annoying!

Please, avoid Christmas ornaments and holiday themes for birthday gifts. We have enough! Decorations are so personal, too. Think of a thoughtful special gift for the person, not the month or the holiday.
