Learn to make Chia seeds into a tasty jelled salad, adding variety and nutrition the easy way.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Chia seed
  • Bowl that will hold 2 quarts
  • Water
  • Ice
  • Favorite Jello mix or other type jelled mix
  • Wire whisk
  • Measuring cup
  1. Step 1

In a plastic container, blend 1/3 cup of Chia seed to 2 cups of water. Mix with a wire whisk until the seeds are fully separated and not clumps. Cover and let stand for about 10 minutes then whisk again to mix well. The seeds will be soaking liquid fast and will clump easy if not stirred a couple of times before placing into the refrigerator.

  2. Step 2

Measure the water for the Jello and bring to a boil. Dissolve the packet of Jello in the boiling water, stirring very well. Add enough ice to equal about 1 cup of cold water and stir until melted.

  3. Step 3

Using the Chia seed mixture pour into the Jello enough to equal a second cup of water, or as much as desired. This will make a 2 quart bowl full of jelled mixture. Place into the refrigerator until fully jelled, add other fruits if desired to the mixture.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to mix seed and water very well before refrigerating.
  • Use the seeds in baking or other foods, like shakes and yogurt.
  • The seeds expand quickly and soak up many times their weight in water.
  • To use dry grind in a coffee grinder and add small amounts to hot liquid drinks or shakes.
