Leopard geckos are great pets for children and they don’t smell as bad as hamsters and gerbils. For the most part, leopard geckos are very friendly and enjoy a lot of attention. With little effort they are easy to take care of.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Give your leopard gecko water daily. Keeping your leopard gecko hydrated is very important. Also, make sure you spray the gecko’s cage at least twice a day with a water bottle. This will keep the cage moist and your gecko will benefit from it.

  2. Step 2

Feed your leopard gecko meal worms and crickets often. Mealworms provide more protein than crickets so geckos should not be fed mealworms as often. The average amount of food should be two meal worms once a week OR four crickets once a week.

  3. Step 3

Change the bedding weekly. Like all pets, after a while they start to smell. Keep the bedding clean and change it weekly so it doesn’t get over crowded with the gecko’s waste.

  4. Step 4

Offer your leopard gecko a heating pad on one side of his cage. Deserts are hot and humid and they enjoy living in that environment. Giving your gecko the often of heating his body will give him comfort when he gets cold.

  5. Step 5

Interact with your leopard gecko often. Take him out and hold him and let him run around on the floor at least three times a week. Geckos love interacting with people.
