Window AC units are the mainstay of many homes' cooling system. They are cheap to buy, easy to operate and quick to install, but over time window AC units can become dirty or clogged, requiring more energy consumption and causing higher energy bills. Cleaning them is quite simple and can be done by any do-it-yourself home owner. Simply follow a step-by-step process to get your window AC units clean.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Water hose
  • Foaming condenser cleaner
  1. Step 1

Begin by cleaning or changing the filter. Pop open the tabs on the front of the AC unit and slide the flat filter out. If the filter is replaceable, simply slide a new filter in its place. If it is a reusable filter, use the hose to spray the dust and dirt off of the filter and then place it back in the unit. Close the tabs.

  2. Step 2

Shake the foaming condenser cleaner thoroughly and then spray the back of the window AC unit, covering the fins of the condenser unit completely. Allow this to sit for 15 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Use the water hose to spray the foaming cleaner off of the unit. Reapply the foam and repeat the spray off three more times to completely clean the unit.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not allow the cleaner run off to be ingested by pets or children as it could harm them or even prove fatal.
