How to Treat Colds With Elderberry

As the small berry from the elder tree, the elderberry is a natural berry known for its healing abilities. Influenza, sore throats and the common cold are just a few of the ailments that elderberry has been used to treat. This berry can also treat body pains and high fevers. While it is found in various forms, the tea and juice seem to be the most popular.

  • Ripe elderberries
  • Large pot with lid
  • Water
  • Strainer
  • Large carafe or juice pitcher

Instructions

      Place ripe elderberries into large pot.

      Fill pot with water.

    • 3

      Bring pot to a boil.

    • 4

      Remove pot from heat.

      Cover pot with lid.

      Let pot sit overnight.

    • 7

      Pour juice into carafe or pitcher using strainer.

      Remove berries from strainer and discard.

    • 9

      Drink juice two to three times daily.

Tips & Warnings

  • For extra-fast recovery from a cold, you may also use elderberry pills in addition to the juice.

  • Be sure that berries are ripe before boiling them. Unripened berries may cause nausea.
