How to Clean a Foam Sleeve Filter Shop Vac

Shop-Vac brand vacuums are perfect for household and automotive uses, particularly the wet/dry models. Most Shop-Vacs contain a foam sleeve filter that is used in conjunction with the primary filter. This foam sleeve captures many particles that would otherwise enter your filter and reduce its life. Clean your foam sleeve filter frequently for best results.

Things You'll Need

• Shop-Vac
• Foam sleeve

Instructions

1. Turn your Shop-Vac off, unplug the power cord and put on your gloves. Remove the latches on top of the vacuum to access the filter.

2. Slide the foam filter off of the shop vac valve. Run the filter under warm water while squeezing it with your hands.

3. Apply a small amount of dish soap to the foam filter. Continue to run it under warm water until the water runs clear. Squeeze the filter to remove the excess water.

4. Let the filter sun dry for three to five hours or until it is completely dry to the touch.

Tips & Warnings

• Do not use your foam filter before it dries. The filter will not be effective.
