Instructions

    • 1

Fill a large, clean bucket or tub (or a garbage container for larger quantities) with water. Make as much as you estimate you will need for your lawn. Do not fill the container more than 3/4 of the way.

    • 2

Fill a cloth or burlap sack (even an old pillowcase will do) with chicken manure. Use about 1 heaping shovel scoop of chicken manure per 5 gallons of water. Place some rocks or a couple of bricks in the sack for weight. Cinch or tie the top of the sack with twine and place it in the water.

    • 3

Cover the container with a screen and allow the tea to steep for two to four weeks, depending on how warm the weather is. Remove and discard the sack of chicken manure.

    • 4

Dilute the tea with water. Use at least 3 parts of water to every 1 part of tea (strong tea can over-fertilize or 'burn' vegetation). Put tea in a garden watering can or sprayer hose attachment to fertilize your lawn. Water your lawn with plain water after adding tea in order to help the tea soak into the soil.

    • 5

Fertilize your lawn two to four times a year.
