Mold infestations can make anybody sick, even those who aren't allergic to mold. Mold can grow on items such as plastic shower curtains or a child's plastic toy. You should attempt to clean any and all mold as soon as you notice it on the plastic item. Standard household soaps will remove the mold from your sight, but they will not fully remove the growth. White vinegar can be used as a way to kill mold found on plastic items.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Fill a bucket or bowl (depending on the size of the plastic object) with warm water and liquid dish soap. You can eyeball the amount of liquid dish soap or measure out a tablespoon of soap.

  2. Step 2

Submerge your sponge into the soapy water and wipe away the mold found on the plastic item. Doing this should get rid of each spec of mold.

  3. Step 3

Dry the plastic item with a clean dry cloth.

  4. Step 4

Pour undiluted white vinegar onto the plastic item. If the plastic item is small, you can cover the entire item with the white vinegar. Otherwise, you can just pour the vinegar onto the portion of the plastic item where the mold was in evidence.

  5. Step 5

Place white vinegar onto a clean sponge in order to get the sponge wet. The sponge doesn't need to be soaked, just wet enough that you can scrub using the sponge.

  6. Step 6

Scrub the plastic item with the wet sponge. Examine the item to ensure that you no longer see mold on the plastic item.

  7. Step 7

Put the plastic item under running water in order to rinse the white vinegar off the item.

  8. Step 8

Set the plastic item on a dry towel so that it can air dry. You can use a fan to speed up the drying process. Do not put the item away until it has fully dried, though. Otherwise, mold could again grow on the plastic item.
