How to Install an Electrical Ceiling Fan
Ceiling fans are a beautiful addition to your home's décor, and they contribute to cooling your home in the summer and spreading the heat that accumulates on the ceiling in the winter. Electrical ceiling fan installation is not extensively difficult, though it does require you to be cautious of the electrical current in your home, as well as the strength of the ceiling that you want to mount the fan on. Things You'll Need
- Mounting bracket
- Motor
- Screws
- Drill
- Fan
- Ceiling Brace
- Blades
- Electrical wire nuts

Preparation

Shut off the power to prevent accidental electrocution.

Make sure that there are no obstructions on the ceiling or climbing to the ceiling that will prevent the fan from spinning properly.

Ensure that the ceiling can support at least 35 lbs. of weight. If it cannot, you will have to add a support brace on the ceiling between the beams to hold the fan.
Install the Support Box

Separate the mounting bracket from the fan motor.

Remove the screws. Set aside.

Install the mounting bracket to the ceiling with the screws and a drill.

Carefully run the electrical wires from the ceiling through the mounting bracket. Take care not to pull on the wires.
Hang and Connect

Attach the fan, with motor, to the mounting bracket with screws.

Look for the blue, white and green wires in the ceiling and on the fan motor. The blue wire operates the light on the fan, the white wire operates the fan, and light and the green wire is the ground.

Connect the wires from the ceiling and the motor to one another using wire nuts.

Push the connected wires up into the bracket so that they are not exposed.

Attach the blades to the fan using the screws that came with your fan.

Tips & Warnings
There are a variety of ceiling fan types that may require additional steps to the installation. Please read the instructions with your particular ceiling fan before you begin. Some ceiling fans that require additional support may be mounted in the attic of the home. If this is the type of installation that you prefer, follow the instructions on the mounting kit that you select for guidance.
Make sure that while you are working on the installation that the electrical box of your home cannot be accessed by anyone else so that they do not accidentally turn the power back on before you are ready.
