Instructions

  1. Fabric Shades

    • 1

Remove any items from the lamp shade that can be damaged by water.

    • 2

Pour 1/4 cup of dishwashing liquid into a bathtub and fill the tub with warm water.

    • 3

Submerge the lamp shade in the tub and rub the shade with a soft cloth or soft-bristled brush to remove dirt and stains.

    • 4

Rinse the lamp shade in cool water. Make sure you remove all the soap, or it may stain the fabric.

    • 5

Hang the shade by a string outdoors (if possible) or in a well-ventilated area to drip dry. The fabric may sag while wet but will contract as it dries.

    • 6

Attach the shade to the lamp while the shade is still damp and turn the lamp on to complete the drying process.

    • 7

Place non-washable items back on the lamp shade once it is completely dry.

Plastic, Laminated, Fiberglass and Parchment Shades

    • 8

Pour 1/4 cup warm water into a mixing bowl.

    • 9

Add one tbs. of mild laundry detergent to the water and beat the mixture with a whisk as you slowly add the detergent. Continue to add detergent until the mixture has the consistency of meringue or whipped cream.

    • 10

Place a small amount of the cleaner on a soft rag or sponge and rub gently on the inside and outside of the shade, one section at a time. Be careful when applying the cleaner to seams as the cleaner may loosen the glue.

    • 11

Wipe the cleaner off the shade with a damp cloth or sponge. Once again, be careful not to soak the shade around seams or you may loosen the glue.

    • 12

Dry the shade with a soft, clean cloth.
