How to Dry Squash Seeds

A squash is a vegetable that contains edible seeds just like a pumpkin. You can dry these seeds and eat them as a snack. You can also dry them and store them to plant in a garden the following spring. Drying the squash seeds is very easy. You may even want to get your kids involved in the project. Instructions

      Rinse your squash seeds out under a faucet of running water. You may want to have a colander underneath of the seeds in case they fall out of your hands. You don't want them to slip down the drain.

      Set the squash seeds on some paper towels. Dab the tops of them with another paper towel. This will soak up most of the water.

      Place the squash seeds on a non-stick baking sheet. Set the oven to 250 degrees. Once it is preheated, place your seeds inside.

      Cook the squash seeds for one hour. You will want to stir them up a bit every 20 minutes. The seeds should be dry and crunchy when you are done baking them.

      Let the seeds cool off before eating or storing for future use.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you keep squash seeds in a cool dry place, they will remain usable for up to six years. If you plan on eating the seeds, add some salt for flavor.
