Making the Napkin Ring
-
1
Save one or two cardboard tubes from your paper towel rolls. Use a pair of scissors to cut the tubes into 2-inch sections. You'll need one 2-inch tube for each napkin holder.
-
2
Select decorative craft paper or wrapping paper. Use a ruler to measure 6-inch by 3-inch strips, and a pencil to trace a light line. Be sure the edges are straight.
-
-
3
Cut out the paper strips. You'll need one strip for each tube section.
-
4
Wrap a paper strip around each tube and secure them with tape. Tuck the edges of the paper inside the tube. Tape them down on the inside of the tube so they won't wrinkle when the napkin moves through the holder.
Decorating Your Napkin Ring
-
5
Draw designs on the paper with markers or crayon. Decorating this way is easy for young children.
-
6
Trace hearts onto a piece of cardboard, card-stock paper or felt. Use a stencil if you have trouble making an even heart, or trace around a heart-shaped cookie cutter. Cut out your heart. Paint it or color it if desired, or write a name or message in glitter glue. Glue the heart onto the napkin ring.
-
7
Glue wrapped chocolate hearts or candy hearts with messages onto the napkin ring.
-
8
Take a silk or dried rose bud, or any flower you desire. Trim the stem to a 1-inch stub. Tape it onto the napkin ring. Cover the tape by gluing silk or dried leaves over it.
-
9
Add a strip of silk ribbon around the napkin ring. Secure it with craft glue or a glue stick. Make a bow and glue it onto the ring.
Adding Your Napkin
-
10
Allow any glue or paint to dry.
-
11
Fold your napkin back and forth, accordion-style, as though you are making a paper fan.
-
12
Slip one end of your napkin through the ring. Center the ring on your napkin.
-
13
Fan out the edges of your napkin a little bit and lay it on or beside a plate.
