How to Change a Belt on an Oreck

Oreck vacuum cleaners are effective carpet-cleaning devices, as long as all the parts are working efficiently. One of the more fragile components of vacuum cleaners is the belt that spins the brush. Over time, the belt loses its elasticity and cannot turn the brush. In some cases, the belt breaks and the vacuum becomes inoperable. Oreck designs its vacuum cleaners with easy access to the belts, so they can be checked and replaced at home.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Flat-head screwdriver
  1. Step 1

Remove the screw from the access panel on the right side of the main nozzle.

  2. Step 2

Pry the door off the nozzle with a flat-head screwdriver. You now have access to the vacuum belt.

  3. Step 3

Pull the belt off the motor drive shaft and roller pulleys.

  4. Step 4

Wrap the replacement belt around the motor drive shaft pulley, stretch the belt to the opposite side of the access panel and loop it around the roller pulley.

  5. Step 5

Spin the roller by hand to ensure it is correctly installed. If the roller is difficult to spin, adjust the belt so it sits in the middle of each pulley.

  6. Step 6

Reattach the access panel cover by sliding it into place and reinserting the security screw.

Tips & Warnings
  • An extra belt is supplied with your vacuum cleaner and is housed in the storage compartment on the bottom of the nozzle.
