Use Olive Oil as a Hair Treatment

This simple olive oil hair treatment will not only make your hair soft and shiny, but you’ll feel like you are treating yourself to a relaxing spa treatment, right in your very own shower! The average woman’s hair is subjected to large amounts of environmental pollutants and synthetic hair products every day, and this barrage of unhealthy treatment can wreak havoc on your hair, causing it to appear dull and lusterless. An olive oil hair treatment actually helps to reduce this buildup, nourish and condition the scalp and hair, and replenish the hair’s natural strength. How to get these benefits?

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • olive oil
  • plastic shower cap
  • bath towel soaked in hot water
  1. Step 1

Pour 1-1.5 cups of olive oil (depending on the length of your hair) into a glass, and microwave it for a few seconds. Be extremely careful that the oil is comfortably warm, NEVER HOT, to the touch.

  2. Step 2

Apply the warm oil generously to your hair. Take a few minutes to really massage the olive oil in, using the pads of your fingers to gently work the olive oil into your hair and scalp in circular motions. Olive oil is full of vitamin E and is so incredibly nourishing to the skin of your scalp. The massaging action also helps to improve circulation.

  3. Step 3

Cover your hair with a plastic shower cap, and wrap a warm, damp towel around your head. This will help to seal in the heat and ensure you reap the greatest benefits from your hair treatment.

  4. Step 4

Spend 30 minutes relaxing while your nourishing olive oil hair treatment does its work. Periodically, when your towel begins to cool off, re-soak it in hot water and return it to your head.

  5. Step 5

Unwrap the towel and shower cap after 30 minutes, and shampoo your hair as usual. Then prepare to enjoy your luxuriously silky, well-conditioned hair!

Tips & Warnings
  • When you shampoo your hair after your olive oil hair treatment, you may have to perform the shampoo/rinse cycle twice to fully remove the olive oil.
  • When heating the olive oil in the microwave, err on the side of caution! Try shorter microwave times first before heating longer, and test the oil on the back of your hand before putting it on your head.
