In the fall, there's nothing so cozy as a mug full of pumpkin spice coffee. But, if you indulge too often at the coffee shop, you can definitely wind up spending a bundle. Fortunately, pumpkin spice coffee is pretty easy to make at home and will taste just as delicious. Here's how to do it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Quality coffee. Pumpkin spice coffee is a perfect choice, but unflavored will work as well.
  • Coffee pot, moka pot, French press, etc--a means to brew the coffee
  • Pumpkin pie spices
  • Cinnamon
  • Ginger (dried)
  • Ground cloves
  • Vanilla extract
  • Milk/creamer (optional)
  1. Step 1

Gather your supplies and pick out your coffee and brew method. The quality of your finished product depends primarily on two things--the quality of the coffee you start with, and your brew method. That's not to say you can't get good quality coffee without spending a fortune, just that your coffee pot *does* matter. (So, if you're in the market for a new coffee pot, check out Consumer Reports or another resource to find the best in your price range.)

  2. Step 2

Into your coffee filter, measure the proper amount of coffee (which will depend on how many cups you're making). Then, add to the top of the grinds 1/4 tsp each pumpkin pie spice, ground ginger, and ground cloves PER cup you're making. By including the spices with the grinds, they'll be brewed straight into the coffee--yum! (Feel free to adjust the measurements of spices according to your personal tastes and the spices you have on hand--some pumpkin pie blends are stronger than others.)

  3. Step 3

Once the coffee is done brewing, and before you pour the coffee, add 1/4 tsp of vanilla per cup of coffee you made. Then, pour the coffee into individual cups and add cream/milk and sugar to taste. Top with whipped cream (if you dare) and cinnamon or just cinnamon. I tend to like my pumpkin spice coffee with a bit more sugar than usual (a full quarter teaspoon instead of just a pinch), so find what you like through experimenting, too.

Tips & Warnings
  • Pumpkin spice coffee is best enjoyed with pumpkin pie scones and friends.
