Step 1
Figure out what your child wants. Have them write a letter to Santa or take them to the mall to see him. Make your own list so that you know what to look for when it comes time to do your Christmas shopping.
-
Step 2
Start comparing the prices of what your child wants for Christmas. Take the inserts in the Sunday paper and check multiple websites to see what is being offered. If a price is cheaper online than it is at the store, many retailers will give you that cheaper price.
-
Step 3
Don't forget to look for coupons. Retailers will offer coupons for their stores around Christmas time in mailers or in newspapers. Many children's clothing stores offer coupons year round. A lot of these stores carry a few toys as well. Pair a coupon with a sale item to save even more money on your kid's Christmas gift.

Step 4
Look into getting some of the toys second hand. Look on eBay, Craigslist, or a local consignment store. If your kid is wanting a game console for his Christmas gift, ask your local rental store if they have any for sale. Many times they will sell a slightly used game system or games for a lot less than in the store. If your child is wanting an electronic gadget such as an iPod or DVD player, consider purchasing a refurbished model. Talk to your friends to see if you can arrange a toy swap. Have several people bring toys that their child has either outgrown or does not play with and swap them with other people. This way your child gets a new toy that they desire and it does not cost you anything.
