Things You'll Need:
- Insulation Foam Wrap
- Duct Tape
- Shovel
-
Step 1
Gather together your supplies. You’re going to need to purchase a sturdy supply of insulation foam wrap, a shovel and duct tape. All of these products can be purchased at your local hardware or Wal-Mart store.
-
Step 2
Once you’ve gathered together the supplies needed you will then need to study your well and any exposed pipe. Taking the time beforehand to look over your well and any exposed piping will allow you the advantage of saving time and money when it’s time for you to get to work.
-
Step 3
After you’ve studied the well you will then need to get a shovel and dig around the piping that is exposed nearest the ground. Be careful not to hit any electrical wires. You’re going to want to dig a hole around the pipe nearest the ground 4 to 6 inches deep so that you keep the pipe under ground better insulated and protected during winter. After you’ve dug the appropriate amount you can then proceed to place the insulated foam wrap around the exposed pipe and then finish by completely covering the insulated foam wrap with duct tape so it stays in place. Promptly cover the exposed pipe, now finished with foam and duct tape, with the dirt.
-
Step 4
Next you will need to cover the remaining exposed pipe, above ground, with the insulated foam wrap and duct tape. You may need to double wrap the insulated foam with duct tape to secure it in place.
-
Step 5
After you have wrapped the exposed pipe with insulation foam wrap and duct tape you will then need to complete the final step of thoroughly wrapping the spicket. Gently place the duct tape around the form of the spicket and press down. The purpose of covering the spicket with duct tape is to help keep it safe and sturdy during winter. If you’d prefer not to use duct tape to cover the spicket you could always purchase a spicket cover cap that also serves to keep the spicket sturdy and safe through-out winter.
