Many mothers who do not breast feed experience newborn baby constipation. Even some nursed infants have newborn constipation, however, it’s more common for babies who are put on formula to become constipated, rather than babies who are breast fed. There are a few baby constipation remedies to follow if this happens to your infant.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

A baby’s constipation may just need a little bit of help in order to get things going. Parents should always start out by feeling the infant’s tummy to see if it is harder than normal, this is a sure sign of newborn constipation. If the tummy is hard, try to slowly and gently bend your infant’s knees back and forth in order to help relieve your baby’s constipation.

  2. Step 2

Parents can also try using some prune juice, by diluting it with water. If the prune juice is too strong, parents can use white grape, apple or pear juice instead. Regardless of what juice you decide to use, you should dilute 1 ounce of juice along with 4 onuses of water.

  3. Step 3

If the juice does not seem to help over time, parents can try using Karo syrup to relieve their baby’s constipation. Karo syrup has been a popular method for many generations. Simply add one teaspoon of light Karo syrup in 4 ounces of water or formula. This is a very popular way to cure newborn constipation.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your baby’s constipation is severe and your infant has not experienced a bowl movement in several days, it’s important to take your infant to the doctor as soon as possible. Severe newborn constipation can sometimes indicate medical issues. On the other hand, your infant may just need to be switched over to a different formula. However, when your baby’s constipation becomes worrisome, you should leave it up to the doctor to treat the issue.
