make grilled Portobello sandwiches

Portobello mushrooms, also sometimes called Portobella mushrooms, are yummy. They are a large mushroom, and taste fantastic on this grilled sandwich recipe.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Portobello mushrooms, fresh (plump and firm). Use 1 mushroom for each sandwich
  • Olive oil
  • Soy sauce
  • Minced garlic
  • French or Italian bread, or whatever type of bun you would prefer
  • Grill
  • Brush for grilling
  1. Step 1

Break off the stems & set aside. You will not be using them on this recipe. (Save them and use in omelets, spaghetti sauce, on salad or on pizza).
Wipe the caps with a damp cloth to clean.

  2. Step 2

Mix 3 tablespoons olive oil, 2 tablespoons Soy sauce and 1 clove minced garlic.

  3. Step 3

Take mushroom caps and sauce mix out to the grill. Using the grill brush, brush the tops of the mushroom caps with the sauce and place them, top down, onto the hot grill.
Generously brush the underside of the caps with the sauce. Grill for approximately 10 minutes, until they soften up. Do not turn the caps on the grill.

  4. Step 4

Slice the break into sandwich size pieces. Cut in half and brush with the oil sauce. Place the bread on the grill to warm it lightly (to your liking).
Take mushrooms off the grill and place on the bread. Serve immediately.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy plump and firm mushrooms, not slippery or slimy ones. Plump and firm means they are fresh.
