Things You'll Need:
- Bench Grinder
- Utility file
- Lawn mower blade balancer
- Screw driver/ socket set
-
Step 1
Shut off the power to you mower and remove your lawn mower blade. The blade is usually attached via one screw or bolt in the center of the blade.
-
Step 2
Using a bench grinder, grind away any large indentations or nicks caused by rocks or other large debris.
-
Step 3
File your lawn mover blade with a simple utility file to fine tune any rough edges. Try to file the blade as evenly as possible using long strokes with your file.
-
Step 4
Check your lawn mower blades' balance with a plastic balance tool. These can be purchased at your local hardware or home supply store. If one side is heavier than the other, go back to work with your grinder and file until your blade is completely balanced.

on 10/25/2009 I have never sharpened our lawn mower blade since we bought the thing almost 7 years ago! I've noticed it has a brownish color at the tips after it's mowed, so I'll have to sharpen the blades. Thanks!
