Step 1
First, you need an iron and preferably an ironing board. There are many types of irons on the market. Look for an iron that offers the following:
- Temperature control for different types of clothes
- Ability to spray mist
- Ability to spray steam
- Auto shut-off
There are different types of iron boards. Some are full stand which means they stand as high as your waist. There are smaller versions which mean they are put on table-tops. Both types have there advantages and disadvantages. Some of which are the cost, size, storage, maintenance. -
Step 2
To iron shirts here are a few tips:
- Set the iron settings to 4-6 which is for cotton
- Stretch the shirt out on the iron board
- Iron the shoulder area first. Use a back and forth motion over the shirt. Let the iron glide over the clothing.
- Iron the sleeves next. You can determine if you want a crease or not. If you want a crease then allow the iron to cover the edge of the clothing. You do not need to press down. The weight of the iron will be all that is needed.
- Iron the front part of the shirt next. This includes both sides. Do not iron over the button. Move the iron around the buttons.
- Iron the back part of the shirt last. -
Step 3
To iron pants here are a few tips:
- Set the iron settings to 4-6
- Stretch one pant leg out on the iron board
- Iron the entire front pant leg from top to bottom.
- Next iron the other front pant leg.
- Flip the pants over and repeat the process for both of the pant legs.
- If you want creases in your pant legs then follow the crease pattern that should be in the pants. If there is no crease pattern then fold the pants to create the crease. Align the outside and inside edge of the pant leg to touch one another. This will allow you to create a crease that runs up the center of the pant leg.
