Things You'll Need:
- Straight razor
- Shaving cream
-
Step 1
First, make sure that you can concentrate on shaving. Do not try to talk on the phone or watch TV while using a straight razor. Until you get used to shaving with a straight razor, you need to pay special attention to what you are doing because there are no "safety" measures on the blade.
-
Step 2
Sharpen your blade using a stone. A straight razor is similar to regular razors in that if you use a dull blade, you will get cuts and nicks.
-
Step 3
Shave in a direction perpendicular to the blade. This is another safety measure. After you finish a stroke, lift the razor off of your face and carefully re-position it for the next stroke. Accidentally running the blade along your skin lengthwise will cut your face.
-
Step 4
Shave against the grain for the closest shave. This means that if your hair grows down in a spot, shave up, and if your hair grows to the right, shave to the left.
-
Step 5
After you have shaved, apply a little rubbing alcohol to your face if you feel a slight burn.
-
Step 6
Store your straight razor in a tight case, out of reach from children and pets. Straight razor blades are very, very sharp and can be dangerous if children try to play with them.
