Things You'll Need:
- Internet connection
-
Step 1
Increasingly nowadays people listen to their music online rather than on the radio or TV. In fact Youtube is probably where most of the younger generation discover and share music. If you go to Youtube.com, click on "videos" at the top (underneath the search bar), then "music" under categories to the left, then "most viewed" and "this month" (under when?) you will see the most popular music on youtube for the last month. Browsing these videos will more than likely give you one or two new good pop songs to listen to.
-
Step 2
It used to be that Billboard and the Top 40 (UK) were the only charts you needed but now that people are listening online, you can find new pop songs in a multitude of charts which take online listening habits into account. A great example is iTunes Top 10s which shows the most downloaded songs from countries around the world. Also "We Are Hunted" delivers the most listened to songs online globally by genre and day/week/month.
-
Step 3
A number of sites recommend good new pop music - they keep current and spot the future hits and give them to you. Ideally you want genuine fan sites and not industry promotional tools. I have included a daily pop song pick from PopJustice.com and a weekly selection in my resource box below.

Step 4
Away from the internet look out for the cable and satellite channels devoted to music. Gone are the days when MTV dominated the TV music world and there is a mass of choice. Two ways of seeing what's hot in the world of TV music is to find a channel which plays your sort of music and check out their new releases (usually played at set times during the week) and see the channel's website for their playlist. Equally you can check out the website of your favourite radio station for a list of their tracks of the moment.

Step 5
Finally you can always ask for recommendations: go to Yahoo Answers for example and just ask for some good music selections, describing your preferences, and see what people say.
