Things You'll Need:

  • a sharp mind, common sense and a proper awareness of your surroundings.
  1. Step 1

Awareness is the most important aspect of self defense. Be aware of your surroundings, know who is around, where they are in relation to you. Keep your head up, stay out of your purse and off your cell phone. It is easier to stay out of a situation than to get out of one.

  2. Step 2

Be confident! Carry yourself with a lot of presence and confidence. People that walk with their head down or slouched over look like victims and eventually will be victims. Stand tall, speak clearly and if confronted stay calm.

  3. Step 3

Use you voice as a weapon! If you are confronted try to draw attention to yourself by yelling or making a lot of noise. Yelling help doesn't work so well but saying things like get your hands off me. Leave me alone, FIRE! tend to draw attention.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep your keys in your hand when walking to and from a building to your vehicle. Not because they make a great weapon, so that you can enter your vehicle or home quickly. Park in well lit places and ask for an escort to walk with you if you feel unsure. Use common sense and your intuition, if it feels wrong it probably is, listen to that instinct! Take a Self Defense class if you have not taken one before and if you have take a refresher, keep those skills with you at all times!
  • This is not a comprehensive list just a few tips to keep you safe during the holiday.
