Step 1
Attend summer classes and take the winter term off. Attending summer classes will save you 50% or more on the cost of housing. Take winter term off instead and get a part-time at a ski hill. Many of these resorts offer room and board for workers. You'll make a little money, ski, and have some time away from the books to recharge the batteries.
-
Step 2
Buy used books. Used books are always sold a discount. Digital or on-line books can be found for additional savings.
-
Step 3
Plan your entire college schedule. Most students I know end up taking additional class and credits that are not required for graduation. With proper planning you can be assured that you only take the minimum classes required for graduation. If you don't follow this step you can end up wasting years and thousands of dollars taking extra classes because you didn't take the time to plan all 4 years.
-
Step 4
Attend a local school for 1-2 years and transfer to the school of your choice. This will save on housing, travel, food and tuition. Make sure to plan appropriately to ensure all credits will transfer. This also works if your grades or test results were not high enough to gain entry. Once you've proven yourself with high marks for another college admission into larger or more select schools will be easier.
-
Step 5
Take as many credits are you can handle. If you take additional classes instead of just the minimum required for full time students you'll be able to graduate in 3 1/2 years or less, instead of 4 or 5. You can also do this by attending class's year around.
