Step 1
Almost all of have had it or are still having trouble with acne. Acne is a skin eruption. It is the most common skin disorder. Acne usually appears on the face. Other places acne appears is the neck, back, chest and shoulders. As we all know acne begins when we are in puberty and continues through our teenage years. It can have some devastating effects on our social lives when we are young. In some cases acne will last into the 30s and 40s. In some rare cases you may not even develop acne until later in your life. Women who are menstruating and those who use oil based cosmetics are more likely to get acne.

Step 2
Teenage boys secrete a male hormone called androgen a male sex hormone which contributes to acne. Just under the skins surface are glands called sebaceous glands. They produce an oily substance called sebum which lubricates the skin and keeps it healthy. They are located at the base of hair follicles. They overproduce sebum when we are at that age of, well you know, the age of crazy hormone stage. When sebum and dirt clog up pores on the skin we get pimples, whiteheads, blackheads and sometimes cysts.

Step 3
For most people acne will take care of itself as we get older or with some over the counter treatments that contain benzoyl peroxide. Of course there are unlimited treatments to try today on the market. Try one and see if it will work for you. For really bad deep acne a dermatologist or physician may prescribe an antibiotic.

Step 4
Let's look at some common sense ways to treat acne simply. Keep your hair and face clean to avoid acne. You should scrub the face gently not hard with a mild soap. Girls DO NOT use oil based cosmetics, use the water based kind to help your skin. Watch the hair spray also. Also be careful of tight fitting clothes that may trap the sebum. Example, hats and headbands.

Step 5
Watch your diet and include things like fresh vegetables and fruits, whole grains and vegetable juices. Try not to eat processed foods. Avoid sweets, foods high in fat, cheese, white bread, fatty meats and cakes.
