How to Create a Pumpkin Mantle Display

- Pumpkins
- Gourds
- Fall leaves
- Gold acrylic paint
- Paintbrush
- Vases (variety of shapes and sizes)
- Votive candleholders and candles
- Spray paint (optional)

Simply gather pumpkins and gourds of all sizes and shapes, but the key is to keep to a single color palette. Many gourds will vary in color, but it's nice to keep them in a similar shade. If you like white and green, that works too--or choose more muted shades like the ones pictured above.

Paint all of the stems gold and let dry for an hour. You can spray paint them or do it with a brush by hand. If you spray paint them, simply tape off the pumpkin so that no overspray lands on it.

Arrange pumpkins and gourds evenly around the mantle. This can be done by stacking them up on each other and varying the sizes and shapes. If you need more height in the back, you can use a small bowl upside down for a lift. Make sure to cover this bowl with another pumpkin, or some branches of leaves or berries.

Place a few stems of leaves in the vase and place them behind the pumpkins and gourds. Use about four to five vases. Make sure the leaves are in the same color palette as your pumpkins and gourds. If they aren't, try spray painting them to make the leaves stand out.

Spread four or five votive candleholders in the front of the mantle that are also in the same color palette as the rest of the items on the mantle. This display can last past Thanksgiving.
