Instructions

    • 1

Measure and cut quilted fabric to the specified measurements.

    • 2

Fold the 62-by-59 inch piece of fabric in half--vertically--so that right sides of the fabric are touching. Pin. Folded fabric will measure 31-by-59 inches.

    • 3

Sew the fabric using a 1-inch seam allowance on the edges, leaving a 4-inch gap on one 31-inch end. Turn the fabric inside out and sew the opening closed. Set aside.

    • 4

Fold the 62-by-49 inches quilted fabric in half vertically so that the right sides of the fabric are touching. Pin. Folded fabric will measure 31-by-49 inches.

    • 5

Sew the fabric using a 1-inch seam allowance the edges, leaving a 4-inch gap on one 31-inch ends.

    • 6

Turn the fabric inside out and sew the opening closed. Both rectangles should have the right sides of the fabric on both the front and the back of each piece.

    • 7

Place the smaller 31-by-49 inch rectangle on top of the 31-by-59 inch rectangle so that the bottom ends are aligned. At this point, either end is the bottom end. Once aligned, it becomes the bottom. Pin the rectangles together on the three outside sides. Do not pin the top of the 49-inch long rectangle. This opening will be the bag's entry.

    • 8

With the tape measure, go 28 inches down the right side of the pinned rectangles and mark with chalk. Remove pins in this 28-inch section. Using the straight stitch on the machine, sew the three edges of the pinned-together rectangles. Do not sew the 28-inch section no longer pinned. This will be the side of the sleeping bag that closes with Velcro for the child's entry into the sleeping bag.

    • 9

Remove pins and turn the rectangles inside out. There should be no raw edges of fabric, and it should resemble a quilted pillowcase of sorts with a longer head base and a shorter "blanket" top, and the side should have a 28-inch flap. Sew the Velcro onto each side of the 28-inch flap on the inside of the rectangle (so it is not visible from the outer rectangle).
