How to Position the Lid on a Weber Grill
Weber grills are instantly recognizable for their dome kettle shape and tripod legs. The dome lid provides vertical space for grilling large cuts of meat, such as a pork shoulder, while the grill is closed. On Weber dome grills, the lid either fits into a curved metal bracket on the back of the grill body (such as the Weber Smokey Joe tabletop grill), or hangs on the lower half of the grill by a hook inside the dome lid. There are several ways to position the lid on a Weber for optimal grilling, depending on your model. Does this Spark an idea?

Table-Top Weber Grills
-
1
Lift the lid from Weber tabletop grills and all models with a curved metal bracket on the back of the grill, then store it by sliding the outside of the lid into the bracket. This creates a windshield to help get the charcoal going on blustery days.
-
2
Set the lid off-center on top of the grill to control heat and smoke by allowing hot gases to escape from the space between the grill and the lid.
-
-
3
Position the lid tight on the grill and adjust the top vent to control temperature for long cooking periods, such as smoking a beef brisket.
Full-Size Weber Grills
-
4
Lift the lid on full-size Weber grills and turn upside down to locate the metal hook on the inside.
-
5
Hang the lid by the hook on the back side of the lower half of the grill to hold it nearby while rearranging or flipping food on the cooking surface and as a wind shield to get the coals going.
-
6
Set the lid off-center on top of the grill to allow heat and smoke to escape from the gap between the grill and the lid.
-
7
Place the lid tight on the grill and adjust the top vent to control temperature for long cooking periods, such as smoking a beef brisket.
