How to Sew a Shower Caddy

Shower caddies are popular gifts for college students facing the prospect of either sharing a semi-private bath or a dorm-hall bathroom.

The design should not only be rugged, but also functional. And it should provide divisions that encourage organization.

  • Whipped cream container or similar plastic container
  • ½ yard of material

Instructions

    • 1

Create a pattern by tracing the circumference of the container. Add the height measurement around the entire original tracing.

    • 2

Cut two layers of fabric from the pattern. Divide into six or eight sections. Stitch each area from the original section to outward edge.

    • 3

Glue the base of the container to the original circle. Using a double-threaded needle, baste along the top edge. Draw the basting to the top edge of the container and whip the stitch through the plastic, working from the starting point all the way around the container, catching only the first layer of fabric.

    • 4

Fan out each storage section. Punch two holes in the container opposite from each other.
Thread the nylon rope through the holes and secure.
