- 20 cups non-iodized salt
- 2 1/2 cups soda ash (sodium carbonate)
Instructions

1
Pre-wash the sheets and rinse thoroughly to ensure all dirt and detergent are removed.
-
2
Fill the tub or washing machine with warm water. Add salt and allow this to dissolve completely.
-
-
3
Mix your dye according to the manufacturer's directions and add it to the tub or washing machine.

4
Add the fabric. If dyeing in a tub, stir at least every three to four minutes for about 30 minutes. If using a washing machine, set the machine to agitate but do not allow the machine to drain.
-
5
Slowly mix soda ash into the water, and do not allow it to fall directly onto the fabric.
-
6
In the tub, stir every three to four minutes, or set the washing machine to agitate again. Continue this for 30 minutes for lighter colors and 1 hour for darker colors.
-
7
Drain the tub and rinse out the extra dye. If using a washing machine, set it to the rinse cycle.
-
8
Wash the sheets in hot water to remove any excess dye. Darker colors may require a second wash. Dry the sheets as you usually would.
