How to Clean a Wet Dry Vacuum Filter

Wet-dry vacuum cleaners may be the most utilitarian invention since the invention of electricity itself. These vacuums are long-lasting when properly maintained, but since these appliances really have only one moving part (the motor), dirt and sand will act like sandpaper upon the internal motor parts, reducing the lifespan of the appliance. Proper cleaning of the filter after each use is of utmost importance. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Clear away any dirt caked around the seal of the filter before removing to prevent debris from entering the internal motor parts.

    • 2

Remove the air filter from the vacuum and hold it vertically. Spray high-pressure air through the filter from the inside, spraying the dirt outwards away from the filter.

    • 3

Re-assemble the filter to the vacuum for the next use.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never attempt to jar the dirt from the filter by tapping on the ground. This will damage the seals around the edges of the filter and may cause the filter elements to buckle, permitting debris to enter the motor assembly. Inspect your filter during every cleaning, looking for holes or tears along the seals or in the filter material itself. If you locate any damage, purchase and install a new filter. Never continue using a damaged filter as this may void your warranty.
