Lime deposits in water clog the holes in the shower head and the pipe. Lime deposits show up as white dust or chunks. The amount of lime in the water depends on the area, water purification and water filters. If the water has high lime content, wipe down the shower head at least once per month. For lighter lime content, clean once every two to three months. Remove the lime with lime remover products or vinegar.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lime remover
  • Spray bottle
  • Bowl (deep enough to submerge shower head)
  • Toothbrush or scrub brush
  1. Step 1

Fill a bowl 3/4 the way full of a lime remover like CLR or Lime-Away. Vinegar also works.

  2. Step 2

Lift the bowl up to the shower head. Submerge the shower head. Let it soak for five minutes. If you can hold the bowl up longer without your arm getting tired, soak it longer.

  3. Step 3

Scrub the lime off with the toothbrush or scrub brush. Pay special attention to the holes. Repeat until all the lime is gone.

  4. Step 4

Fill the spray bottle with lime remover. Spray the pipe behind the shower head and scrub with a brush.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the shower head can be removed, just soak it in the bowl for 20 minutes.
