Things You'll Need:
- Sandpaper
- Spray painter
- Cans of spray paint
- Primer
-
Step 1
Clean the PVC pipe to remove any dirt and other material from the pipe. You many need to clean grease, oil or other substances off used pipe. If you do not want to clean old pipe, you can always purchase new PVC piping.
-
Step 2
Sand the PVC piping with sandpaper to make it less smooth so that the paint will adhere to the tubing.
-
Step 3
Assemble the piece of furniture from the PVC tubing before applying the paint. Painting the furniture fully assembled eliminates the need to tape off the ends that will need to be glued together.
-
Step 4
Apply a coat of primer so that the paint will have a better chance of adhering to the PVC. Primer creates a base that helps the paint stick to the surface.
-
Step 5
Wait for the primer to dry, and then apply your choice of paint to the PVC piping using a spray painter or cans of spray paint. Spray the paint evenly over the PVC pipe to avoid over spraying.
-
Step 6
Let the paint dry between 4 to 6 hours before using the piece of furniture.
