How to Log On to Administrator Privileges on XP & Install an XP Component

When Windows XP is installed, the user is given the option to include any of several different Windows components. Use the Windows XP Control Panel to add Windows components that were left out of the original installation.

      Restart the computer, and at the "Log In" screen, click the icon representing the Administrator account or an account with Administrator privileges. You must have the password for the appropriate account to log in. This will bring you to the Windows desktop.

      Click "Start," and then click "Control Panel."

      Double-click "Add or Remove Programs" to bring up a list of the programs that you currently have installed. On the left side of this window, locate and click the button labeled "Add/Remove Windows Components."

      Examine the list displayed to see which Windows components are currently installed. Some categories may contain multiple items. To see these, click on the category and then click the "Details" button.

      Check the boxes next to all Windows components that you wish to install, and click "OK." You will be asked to insert the Windows XP CD. Do this.

      Navigate to the "I386" folder on the CD if you are asked to point the installation software to the required files, and click "OK" again. After the installation is complete, you may need to restart your computer. Upon restarting the computer, the desired Windows XP components will be installed.
