A personalized way to send a greeting to someone is to make a popup card. Popup cards can be used for all occasions including birthdays, holidays, invitations and thank you notes. Any design can be made for a popup card and common designs include flowers, suns, hearts, snowflakes and animals.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Choose a design that you want to pop out of your card. If you're having trouble thinking of a design, you can get ideas from craft websites such as Better Homes and Gardens and Michaels.

  2. Step 2

Draw your design on a separate piece of paper. Draw a half inch rectangular tab on either side of the design so it can be attached to the card.

  3. Step 3

Cut out the design and fold it in half down the center with the colored side out.

  4. Step 4

Fold tabs away from the colored side.

  5. Step 5

Fold paper for the card in half and then unfold.

  6. Step 6

Place glue on the tabs of the design. Glue the design to the card so that the fold in the design lines up with the fold in the card.

  7. Step 7

After the glue dries, fold the card and press it flat. Unfold the card carefully to be sure that the popup design folds out.

  8. Step 8

Decorate the rest of the card with markers.

Tips & Warnings
  • Choose a design that is symmetrical to facilitate folding. Cut out other shapes to glue on to the popup design to create a more elaborate effect. Use only a small amount of liquid glue or a glue stick to prevent glue from running.
