Make an appointment with your doctor to get appropriate medication. Two types of oral medicine exist for treating scalp ringworm, and you must take one of them for as long as six weeks. Follow all instructions, and do not stop or alter your treatment in any way without talking to your doctor first.

Wash your hair with a medicated shampoo that contains selenium sulfide. Lather up your hair and let the shampoo sit for five minutes before rinsing it off. Use it two or three times a week for a month. Selsun is a popular brand readily available in supermarkets.

Apply tea tree oil to the affected areas three to four times a day for as long as two weeks after the infection clears to be sure it is eradicated. Tea tree oil has potent antifungal properties. According to alternative medicine expert Dr. Andrew Weil, this treatment is as effective as prescription topical antifungal medications.
